FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these the same mouthguards the UFC fighters wear?

Absolutely! They're built to the exact specifications as the professionals.

How long does it take to make a guard?

The normal turnaround time is about 5 weeks but that can fluctuate based on the complexity of the design and how quickly the molds are returned. If you have a specific date you need your mouthguard by please send us a message.

Why is the shipping cost so expensive?

All first time purchases have to be triple shipped which adds to the total cost. A molding kit is shipped to you with an included pre-paid return label. Then once we complete your guard it's shipped back to you.

How long do the mouthguards last?

Depending on the frequency of use the typical shelf life can approach two years. An exception would be in kids/teenagers who are still growing. In those cases the guards would likely need to be replaced after one year or sports season. Another exception would be combat sports athletes who use their guard for every training session. We recommend reserving the mouthguard for sparring and competition. If you use it more selectively it can last for two years or more.

How do when I know it’s time to replace my mouthguard?

The most important sign to look for is reduced retention. What that means is that the guard will fall out more easily when your mouth is opened. Another sign would be any kind of separation of the layers of the guard. That can happen after repeated biting/clenching.

Can I get a guard made if I have braces?

You can get a mouthguard made with braces Yes! But, the molding kits won't work. You would need to get an intraoral scan digitally and have that sent to our lab. If you're local we can do that here in New York but if you're not you can have that done at any local dental office. We can also sometimes offer a courtesy discount. If you're considering  purchasing a guard for an athlete with braces shoot us a message and we can help coordinate.

Can I use my guard after I’ve had dental work done?

The short answer is yes. For most routine and minor dental work the mouthguard should still fit. However for major work it may have an effect. We would consider major work to be; ortho/braces, teeth extractions or removal, crown and bridge work, dental implants. Things like fillings should not cause any issues.
